Code 128B is a high-density linear symbology (ISO/IEC 15417) that encodes the full ASCII 128 character set—including uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and punctuation—in roughly 40% less horizontal width than Code 39. Additionally, Code 128 includes a mandatory modulo-103 check digit, eliminating misreads when scanning dusty or angled warehouse rack labels.
When printing barcode sheets from your browser's Print-to-PDF dialog, always set Margins to Default or None and set Scale to 100% (do not select "Fit to Page" or "Shrink to Printable Area"). Scaling below 100% shrinks vertical row pitch, causing the bottom rows on an Avery 30-up sheet to drift across the die-cut perforations.
A 1D laser or 2D CMOS imager requires a "Quiet Zone" (clear white margin) at both the left and right ends of the barcode equal to at least 10 times the narrowest bar width ($10X$), or a minimum of 0.10 inches (2.54 mm). For standard arm's-length bin scanning (6 to 24 inches), a minimum X-dimension of 10 to 15 mils (0.25 to 0.38 mm) ensures instant first-trigger reads.
